Your donation helps build affordable homes for families in our community.
We know you want to make a difference in people’s lives and the community; that is our goal and driving mission as well.
At Habitat we have found that making a difference in a family’s life involves a significant investment in simple, decent, and affordable housing. You can help a family get out of substandard housing and into an affordable, energy efficient home and make a long lasting impact on their life
Habitat for Humanity is making a difference one family at a time. 57 families in 14 communities throughout North St. Louis County have been given a hand up into affordable housing. This year we are partnering with eight families who will soon be moving into a home. Because of YOU, four families in Virginia and four families in Hibbing who may have never known what it is like to have the stability and safety of a home will have their lives forever changed.
Safe affordable housing helps alleviate financial pressures for parents and gives them the satisfaction of providing adequate housing for their families. The stress of having to move their family around because of rising rent and heating costs or mold and pest problems is eliminated.
We invite you to join the team at North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity by making a tax-deductable contribution to make a big difference in families’ lives in 2014. We know we can make a big difference one board, one wall, one home, one family and one community at a time. Will you join us in helping your neighbors in need of a hand up this year?
How does Habitat work?
Partner families buy their Habitat homes and must qualify for an affordable interest free, 30 year mortgage, and make a $400 down payment. Each partner family is required to attend home ownership classes and invest a minimum of 300 hours of “sweat equity” into building their home or other Habitat activities.
In addition to the families’ sweat equity hours up to 200 community volunteers provide another 2000 hours to complete each house. 100% of our homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are reinvested to build more homes in North St. Louis County. Last year 92 cents of every dollar raised went to building homes.
Habitat works through dedicated volunteers, tax-deductable contributions and by partnering with churches, businesses, civic groups, and government programs to build hope in partner families and the community. Habitat International celebrated the completion of the 500,000th home in the U.S. and around the world in October 2011. In addition to building homes in our communities, North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity contributes 10% of its undesignated income as part of its goal to end poverty housing world wide. These funds have built 48 homes in Mexico and other parts of the world in desperate need of housing.
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
