MEET THE CHILDREN

These children, ages 5 – 13, have all been orphaned by both parents, primarily due to premature death from HIV/AIDS. The children had been living with distant relatives who could no longer care for them for various reasons. Rather than being abandoned and left to fend for themselves, NCV has taken them in to live and grow as our first residents. Below we share a few details about each one.

TUYISHIMIRE Angelique – 11 Angelique is in her second year of primary school where she does well. Her favorite food is rice and she loves to dance.

TUYISHIMIRE Honorine – 10 Honorine is in her third year of primary school. She came in 8th in her class. Honorine likes to sing and her favorite food is mango.

MUKESHIMANA Georgette – 9 Georgette is in her fourth year of primary school where she is 7th in her class. She enjoys mathematics and likes to read. Her favorite food is mango, and she also likes rice.

UWINEZA Cynthia – 13 Cynthia is a very bright girl who is 7th in her class. She likes to dance and her favorite food is bananas.

UWASE Mediatrice – 9 Mediatrice has a sister, Didiane (below) and a brother, Kery, all of whom live at NCV. Mediatrice is a smiling girl, open minded and does very well at school. Her favorite food is mango.

UMUBYEYI Didiane – 13 Didiane has a sister, Mediatrice (above) and a brother, Kery. She is a joyful girl, and does very well at school. She enjoys studying English. Didiane likes mango and rice. She also enjoys dancing.

KAMPIRE Vestine – 9 Vestine is in primary one at school where she came in 8th in her class. She enjoys reading, drawing and singing.

UMUHOZA Henriette – 10 Henriette was in primary three but did not have means to continue. She was living with her sister who could no longer care for her. A former neighbor to NCV’s site, Henriette is happy to now call NCV “home”.

BOYSUWACU Theophile – 5 Theophile is in primary one and is our newest resident. Theo was very close to 3 brothers who were staying in the same center before becoming NCV’s residents. NCV was asked to accept him as well so he would not be separated from his only friends. Theo loves meat and French fries. He enjoys listening to stories and is a real story teller himself.

KWIZERA Claude – 5 Claude is brother to Fabrice. These brothers were our first residents. Claude was quite sick with malaria when he arrived at NCV. With proper medical attention, he is now doing very well. Claude enjoys playing soccer and has a cheerful disposition.

NAYITURIKI Fabrice – 8 Fabrice is brother to Claude. He loves to eat fish. His favorite subject is mathematics. Outside of school, Fabrice is full of energy and enjoys playing with a soccer ball.

ISHIMWE Kery – 6 Kery has two sisters, Mediatrice and Didiane. Kery loves to eat meat and play soccer. His favorite subject at school is English.

NYANDWI Cassim – 12 Cassim is in primary six at school where he came in 9th in his class. Cassim enjoys being at school. His favorite subject is mathematics. He was quiet when he first arrived at NCV but is now a happy, outgoing boy.

MUGISHA Job – 6 Job is in primary one at school. He was abandoned and found by a street children’s center. After he was found, Job did not speak for 2 full months. Today, Job is a happy boy who enjoys singing and dancing.

KWIZERA Bosco – 6 ; KUNDIMANA Yves – 6; and Xavier – 13

Once refugees in Uganda, these three brothers were abandoned by their parents during their return to Rwanda. These brothers were temporarily placed with a shelter for street children. Bosco is in primary one. He enjoys doing social studies at school and likes to dance. His favorite foods are bananas and meat. Yves is in primary one as well. Yves loves to eat meat and likes to draw pictures. He is a little preacher and can even cite Bible verses. Xavier is in primary two. He likes to study Kinyarwanda at school. Xavier’s favorite food is avocado and he also enjoys playing soccer.
