Who are we?

We are WorldTeach volunteers in India, teaching English and giving our love to orphan children, ages 5-18, who live in Nagammaiyar Children's Home.

Why are we fundraising?

National Literacy month is here, but if you walk into our Children's Home "library" you'd be hard pressed to find any book you'd actually want to pick up and read. The library consists of two big bookshelves lined with old textbooks covered in dust.

What is our goal?

Our goal is to raise $1000 to fill those shelves with children's and young adult books that our girls will love reading. Once our shelves are full and our library beautiful and comfortable, we will be spending our evenings there, reading with the girls and conducting literacy activities.

Where will we get the books?

Tulika Books, an independent publishing house based in Chennai, India, has offered us a full library set of 264 books for $340. The set will include 132 English titles, 102 Tamil titles, and 42 bilingual English-Tamil titles. The children will be able to enjoy books in both their mother tongue and in English while improving their reading skills in both languages.
