This past spring break, I went on a trip with other college students to Nicaragua. Before going on this trip, I had an idea on what would happen and how much fun it would be. However, I never could have anticipated the impact that the people and the culture would have on me.

I am so fortunate to have a family who loves me, cares for me, finaces me, and educates me. Many of the children in Nicaragua don't have that. They don't have shoes, books, 3 meals a day, paved streets, etc. Despite the childrens' obvious hardships, they were perhaps some of the happiest, most open children I have been able to associate with. These kids welcomed us with, literally, open arms. They immediately formed bonds with all of us on the trip, and it was heartbreaking when we had to leave.

There is only so much I can say in words, and the rest is only felt through experience. I hope that my brief story has influenced you to at least donate $10. These kids need someone to care about them and to show them they are worth fighting for.
