Please consider supporting Minnesota State Fair preservation projects like the Grandstand Ramp on Give to the Max Day!

At the very core of the Foundation mission, the purpose is to preserve historic buildings and connect fair guests with State Fair and Minnesota history. Through the History and Heritage program area, donors at all levels of giving can make a significant difference. Our current priority is to raise funds for the Grandstand Ramp, within this program area.

About the Grandstand Ramp Project:

The Grandstand Ramp preservation project entails three elements, achieving the original architectural vision for the historic ramp:

1. Installing 70 recessed groove lights
2. Upgrading the 10 tower lights
3. Replacing safety fencing with more historically accurate materials.

The Grandstand, built in 1909, was originally accessed by an earthen ramp, which was replaced with the current ramp by the Works Progress Administration in 1937. The State Fair Grandstand Ramp is a 335-ft. by 35-ft. walkway accented by 10 towers leading to the second floor of the historic Grandstand. For nearly 75 years, the ramp has welcomed fair guests to the entertainment and merchandise exhibits of the Grandstand and has served as a prominent meeting spot for friends and families.

We are well on our way to raising $200,000 for the project. We recently received a preservation grant of $30,000 from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and have combined this with other History and Heritage contributions.

Our Story:

With a history older than the state, the Minnesota State Fair connects generations of families and friends. For many generations, we have gathered to celebrate the last days of summer at our Great Minnesota Get-Together. From Ada to Zumbrota, you are at the very heart of what makes our State Fair an outstanding educational and cultural experience.

Despite the State Fair's long and successful history, there is an ongoing need for new resources. These funds are needed to improve aging facilities and provide contemporary educational programming while retaining traditions.

This is why, in 2002, community leaders formed the Minnesota State Fair Foundation as the nonprofit fundraising entity in support of this mission: To preserve and improve the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, and support State Fair agricultural, scientific and educational experiences.

Over the last several years, contributions for capital and program improvements have resulted in the CHS Miracle of Birth Center, capital improvements to the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum, preservation and naming of the J.V. Bailey House, an updated Moo Booth, and the addition of hundreds of trees, gardens and benches to create an outstanding environment on the fairgrounds.

As we look to the future, we will rely on your help to preserve the State Fair experience for the next generation.
