MOCA

I found MOCA the month I was going to start chemo. I didn't know anything about them until the day I saw their poster for the 2007 Walk/Run on September 15, at my gynecologic-oncologist's office. I thought about it for a few days and at the last minute I registered myself and my kids. The summer had been a whirlwind of confusion, 2 surgeries, the diagnosis, the prospect of chemotherapy looming, I decided that I would go. I was overwhelmed by the welcome I felt. People were coming up to me all through the walk, encouraging, smiling, supportive. I was so uplifted by the experience that I have been connected with them and participate as often as I can. They are a fabulous group of people that want to help change the face of the disease. They want to get the word out, fund research and bring awareness to the physicians that treat us. This was the last time I had long hair. Several weeks after this picture was taken I had no hair and was attending my first support group meeting at the MOCA office. Celebrating their 10th Anniversary, MOCA was founded in 1999 by a small group of ovarian cancer survivors. MOCA has grown from a group of 9 women to an organization of more than 750 survivors and over 32,000 donors and active members. MOCA is a Minnesota based nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness and funding the research needed to detect ovarian cancer early and treat it properly. In just nine years, MOCA has raised more than $2.3 million for ovarian cancer research in Minnesota. Help me help them. Love, Lynn
