Help MN GreenStar Double Certifications in 2012!

Minnesota GreenStar is a leading residential building standards and certification program created by Minnesotans for Minnesotans. The program promotes and helps with design and construction of green remodels and new homes across Minnesota that are healthy, durable, and high-performance. We've identified a way to expand the impact of this work, but we need your help!

An objective, third-party verification system that assures consumers that the new home or remodeling project performs as designed is fundamental to the MN GreenStar program.

Our certification program takes a whole-systems approach applying five key concepts of green building programs: energy efficiency, resource efficiency (including durability), indoor environmental quality, water conservation, site and community.

Creating a standard that applies these concepts to the entire building process is no small feat, and neither is achieving meaningful certification!

Our checklist has helped countless people make sustainable choices about their home. After going through the certification process so many times, however, we see many ways that the checklist could be improved. We know that making certification as simple as possible will reduce the barrier to entry for homeowners and designers/builders/remodelers, and greatly expand our impact on the market and the environment.

We have a proposal in hand to accomplish this! If we can raise the funds to support this work by January 20, we can revamp the checklist by spring, and be on our way to doubling certifications in 2012.
