Mission Argentina 2012
Steven Mechels fundraising for National Community Church
Teen Challenge is a US founded, international faith-based organization that rehabilitates individuals with life-controlling addictions.
Have you ever seen the movie or read the book "The Cross and the Switchblade?" What about "Run, Baby Run?" If so, then you are familiar with the beginnings and story of Teen Challenge. Global Teen Challenge is a faith based organization that works to rehabilitate individuals with life-controlling addictions.
In January 2011 I travelled with a group of volunteers to a Teen Challenge center in Jamaica. The week I spent there living, working and worshipping with the students was one of the most spiritual events of my life. I went with the hope of being able to help others and in the process had a wonderful, life-changing experience myself.
In January of 2012, I will be travelling (with a team from National Community Church) to Argentina. We will assist with construction and maintenance at a Teen Challenge center, as well as ministering to those at the center. It is my hope that we will once again develop a strong relationship with the students of Teen Challenge and help them in their path to rehabilitation.
While on this trip, we will be working alongside the students in the program to complete the final phases of construction on their much needed training facility. This facility will allow Teen Challenge to train leaders and staff members who are going all across South and Central America to carry on the work, touching lives with God's Spirit.
This specific Teen Challenge in Argentina is unique in that it is a new prototype for all Teen Challenges. This center is practically self-sustainable through it's dairy and agriculture farm, which produces, markets, and sells 22 different products. Not only does this help them with their tremendous financial obligations, but it allows the students to learn a trade, as well as give them production, marketing, and small business enterprise experience. These individuals are not only breaking free from addiction, but learning how to constructively live after addiction! TC Argentina has created a model that will be used around the globe.
We will also be taking time to go into the villas miseria, which are the shanty towns in Buenos Aires, to do some work as well. We want to share hope and life in a practical way with people who have been neglected.
The needed amount to raise includes airfare, construction supplies and room and board for the week spent in Argentina. Prayers and donations are greatly appreciated! I'm believing that with your help I will be able to raise the funds to experience something truly amazing. Your donation is tax deductible and any money over my target will be used for additional projects at the Teen Challenge center.
Won't you please help me help others? No donation is too small. Thank You!
