Minnesota Land Trust
Minnesota's most treasured places are protected forever because of member support of the Minnesota Land Trust.
The Minnesota Land Trust is a state-wide, non-profit organization with regional offices in Ely, Duluth and St. Paul. Since its founding in 1991, the Land Trust has completed 440 land-protection projects throughout the state that now preserve over 39,000 acres of natural and scenic land including working farms and forestlands, youth camps and nature sanctuaries.
These projects involve a mix of public and private lands that benefit the public by conserving important wildlife habitats, critical shoreline areas and lands that preserve the scenic integrity of communities.
In addition, the Land Trust is coordinating a multi-million dollar, multi-year effort to restore the St. Louis River Estuary in Duluth. More than 1,400 acres of fish habitat and spawning grounds will be restored.
As the largest tributary to Lake Superior, the lower St. Louis River Estuary has the potential to become one fo the greatest success stories of recovery of fish, waterfowl and migratory birds in the Great Lakes.
