Fringe connects adventurous artists with adventurous audiences by creating open, supportive forums for free and diverse artistic expression.
Boy, have we got big things in store this year! We're already hard at work on next year's festival and have hit the ground running with lots of new plans. We've opened the festival up to an entirely different kind of performance with our new site-specific program. Want to see a show in a swimming pool? We might just have that! We're also working with a new design team, which means we're reinventing the look and feel of the festival. But why would we stop there? A new look means that we're reimagining our website from the ground up, revolutionizing the way you browse for shows, buy tickets and connect with fellow Fringers. It's ambitious, but we can do it with your support. All donations from Give to the Max Day this year will go toward improving the look, feel and structure of the festival to help artists reach new audiences and help audiences discover new and exciting work. It's the best way we know how to support our mission of connecting adventurous artists with adventurous audiences.
As a thank you for your support, the top five givers on Give to the Max Day will get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the 2014 festival look before the website goes live to the public on July 1! You'll meet with the Fringe team to see the brand new design of the festival before anyone else and get the inside scoop on what's new this year.

In the wake of our 20th anniversary Minnesota Fringe, held August 1-11, 2013, we're more convinced than ever that what we do matters. We're the biggest performance festival in the Midwest, featuring theater, dance, comedy, physical theater, shows for kids, shows by teens, and much more. And what makes us unique in the region is that we're a non-juried event - applications for performances are selected by random lottery. The 2014 Fringe Festival will be July 31 - August 10 and will feature performing companies from Minnesota and across the country.
The 2013 Fringe was a rollicking success. You can check out our annual report for the details, but here are a few key numbers we're extra-proud of:
• 895 performances of 176 shows, highlighting the work of nearly 1,200 artists
• 50,007 tickets distributed over eleven days
• Over $245,000 in box office revenue paid to our producing companies. The average payout was $1,393.
We kept ticket prices low – they haven’t gone up since 2004! Our top ticket price remains at $12 (plus the one-time purchase of a $4 Fringe button), with discounts available for students and multiple ticket buyers.
Volunteering is a great way for people to see a free show for every shift they work - 420 people took us up on that offer this year and worked over 3,600 shifts.
We made the Fringe accessible for the artists in other ways as well – our low production fee (ranging from $350 to $450 depending on venue size) makes us an incredibly affordable way to get their work onstage, and for companies unable to front that much money, we offer fee deferments, allowing them to postpone payment until they’ve received their box office payout.
Your donation today will help us continue our exemplary track record of providing support to artists and engaging artistic experiences for audiences. We're proud that 75% of our budget comes from earned income, but individual contributions are still important to our bottom line.
