The Minneapolis Police Honor Guard is in need of funds for travel, to purchase uniforms, foot wear, leather duty gear and polish.
The Minneapolis Police Honor Guard was founded in 1992. The Department identified a need for a specialized unit to conduct memorial affairs to honor our fallen peace officers and to participate in ceremonies and special events to represent the Minneapolis Police Department.
The Honor Guard is staffed with 28 sworn officers who volunteer to represent the Minneapolis Police Department at funerals of officers who have died in the line of duty, as well as active and retired members of the Department.
The primary purpose of the Honor Guard is to provide funeral honors for fallen comrades. The Honor Guard will post at the casket or remains at wakes, serve as pall bears at funerals and render a final salute at interment services. The Minneapolis Police Honor Guard networks with funeral home directors and clergy to assure the family receives the comfort and support through a difficult time.
Officers continuously train throughout the year for this special assignment. The Honor Guard has attended hundreds of memorial services and funerals throughout the state and Mid-West, and also participates in the Candlelight Vigil during national Police Week for Fallen Officers in Saint Paul.
