Help us restore hope to a community of orphans in Africa by supporting ZOE Ministry
I like to run and I like to race -- it is my release from the "real" world. However i like shorter runs (5k and 10k) but last year I started attempting half marathons (3), and now I want to attemp a full marathon (the Dallas Marathon December 9th, 2012) -- this creates some challenges, I like to sweat and sweat a lot, so I have to pace myself better, train better and more importantly take in plenty of fluids and fuel (which I am stubborn about doing) -- what makes someone want to attempt a marathon, I am not sure except peer presure and a desire to achieve something bigger.
That brings me to my "real" motivation, Miles for Hope 2012. I can combine my love for running with a chance to change lives - how great is that? below is brief overview and and see video https://vimeo.com/46249908 -- please join me in this endeavor.
In the fall on 2010, First United Methodist Church of Mansfield set a goal of raising $250,000 over the course of three years to help transform the lives of 1,000 orphans in Africa. That goal was meet for 1037 orphans and now we are attempting to do the same for another 1000 kids. ZOE Ministry [www.zoeministry.org] is our partner in this endeavor. Our three year commitment coincides with the three year empowerment program in which each of these orphans is participating. During that time, they not only build a new home, they learn a business or trade that will allow them to care for themselves and their younger siblings. A new, self-sustaining community will be built filled with kids whose hope has been restored. Miles for Hope grew out of a deep commitment to seeing this dream come true. This year, a group of runners will be seeking support for ZOE as they prepare to run a marathon or half marathon this fall. Some are veterans. They know the great challenge that lies ahead in preparing to run 26.2/13.1 miles. For some, it will be there first time. For all of them, it will be a unique opportunity to invite those who care about them to care about these kids living on the other side of the world. Would you like to be a part of bringing hope to these children? We would love to have you join the team by making a donation to Miles for Hope today.
