I'm running my first half marathon on March 17 to raise money to support Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research on Team "BROOKS."
If you know me, you know I am not a long distance runner. So... when I signed up for this half-marthon, I knew it was going to be a challenge and raising $900. However, I am inspired after the past year watching my best friend and her son "our hero" never give up --I knew this was a challenge I could tackle. It touches my heart to see so many rally around the fight against childhood cancer.
I am running in honor of Brooks House: On June 22, 2011 Brooks was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that affects mostly children. He is the sweetest, strongest and bravest kid around!
The true spirit behind my run is to raise money for The Rally Foundation www.RallyFoundation.net
Below are some staggering facts about fighting childhood cancer:
- Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of children ages 0-15 in the United States.
- The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown. At present, childhood cancer cannot be prevented.
- Childhood cancers affect more potential patient-years of life than any other cancer except breast and lung cancer.
- For every dollar Rally receives, 93 cents goes to support all phases of childhood cancer research according to our audited financials.
