Your donations to LAAW during the March Madness giving tournament will help victims of abuse in times of crisis.

Your mother. Your sister. Your best friend. Domestic violence does not discriminate. LAAW can help.

LAAW is short for Legal Advocates for Abused Women. We help victims of abuse in times of crisis. It's as simple as that. We do this by working within law enforcement and the legal systems to help victims at the earliest stage of violence and at every entry point into the legal system. LAAW provides crisis intervention & support, legal information & advocacy, safety planning and legal & social service referrals for victims of abuse. What does this mean?

It means that if a victim files for an order of protection, our advocates are there to help her file, answer questions, and offer resources.

It means that if she files a police report, we provide immediate outreach to make sure she understands what is going on and help her with resources, safety planning, or anything else she needs.

If she calls our crisis line, we can talk to her about shelters, child support, and so much more. If she needs an attorney for her order of protection hearing, we have two attorneys on staff and a roster of over 70 volunteer attorneys who also provide free legal representation.

And these are just a few examples of the work LAAW does. The best part is LAAW offers all of these services completely free of charge.

Every unique donation received during March Madness (March 15 - March 30) helps LAAW compete in the Razoo March Madness competition. Whoever gets the highest number of donations ($10 or more) during this time period advances to the Final Four where we compete for $10,000. This is a fantastic opportunity for LAAW to raise much needed funds. So tell your friends, family, and coworkers to donate to LAAW through this page! We need your support!

I want to do what I can to help organizations like this. I became familiar with RAVEN a few years ago, and it raised my awareness of problems with abuse.

Domestic violence is a shameful secret no one wants to talk about, and in countries where a woman is nothing but a piece of property for the man, it is not even acknowledged; let alone considered a crime. Therefore, when a woman is fortunate enough to escape the abuse and oppression and seeks refuge in the United States, she rightfully assumes her life of freedom is just around the corner, and so is LAAW to help her achieve just that! LAAW has helped not only women from St. Louis, but women from other countries, including Pakistan, India, Morocco, Afghanistan, and Bosnia. The Domestic Violence Intervention Partnership Project (DVIP) at LAAW, is a first of its kind to help victims referred directly by the police to them, as soon as the incident occurs; thereby providing immediate crisis intervention to the victim. Lets stand united against violence toward women, and lets support a wonderful organization working tirelessly for this great cause! With sincere thanks and appreciation, and honoring the victims who are no longer with us today, Tammana William St. Louis, MO
