Memorial Day Camp Out at Water Park of America

Camp Get-A-Well-A brings a camp experience inside the hospital, so sick kids can still experience the thrills of summer camp.

As a child, I was always enjoying the outdoors. Whether it was my 9 year old camping trip birthday party, summer church camp, or Math & Science camp for girls, it was a thrill for me to have experienced those adventures. I was blessed to be a healthy child who got to take advantage of those typical childhood experiences.

Not all children have these opportunities, however. Kids sick with cancer, luekemia, injuries, and other serious illnesses may be forced to forfeit a "normal" childhood for a long period of time in a hospital room. Their only opportunity to enjoy the outdoors safely might be through a 6th story hospital room window.

Camp Get-A-Well-A is an organization that brings a safe and fun camp-like experience to those children who are not able to take part in the exciting and memorable camp experiences that I was able to have. Volunteers work with trained hospital personnel to serve as Camp Counselors for a variety of events including indoor campfire sing-a-longs, handmade crafts, tie-dye projects, camp bingo, scavenger hunts and much more!

My work - Water Park of America - is hosting a fundraiser for Camp Get-A-Well-A on Sunday, May 30th and Monday, May 31st (Memorial Day). The water park will be open ALL NIGHT Sunday night into Monday morning, with not only the usual aquatic fun, but also camp activities and contests, vendors and sponsors galore!

GENERAL ADMISSION: Water Park passes will be $35.95 for admission 10pm - 9am. If you purchase a water park package hotel room, you get a discount on passes AND you can go upstairs to crash if you can't make it through the night. :)
