Hi Everyone :-) I'm running the 2012 Boston Marathon for Mass Mentoring and raising money to help quality mentoring programs across Mass.
I've decided to run the Boston Marathon for Mass Mentoring and Big Sister Assoc of Greater Boston because I truly believe, passionately, that having a great mentor can change a person forever. I have been so lucky in my life to have always been surrounded by great people who in essence are my mentors. They came into my life in many different ways starting with my parents, and then teachers, coaches, friends and managers. However to think that there are children out there who aren’t that lucky and that I can personally change that for them is amazing to me. I am currently a Big Sister to Angela. We have lunch together once a week and I can honestly say it is the best hour of my work week. We eat our lunch together (Angela loves it when I bring my lunch and always asks if I have it) and hang out. She has taught me how to play games on my iPhone which as we all know is quite a feat. I enjoy talking to her about all sorts of things, doing creative projects, and really just feel pure enjoyment hanging out with her. I think the greatest thing about being a mentor is being given the opportunity by a child to make a difference in their life, and in turn it’s unbelievable how that opportunity changes your own life for the better.
Now you may ask why Boston… I ran my first marathon in October (Hartford ING) and I’m hooked J Crazy, yes, but crazy for running J I loved it and can’t wait to really start training again. And absolutely cannot wait till race day. I loved every minute of the Hartford, especially having some of the people who mean the most to me there to cheer me on, which was so needed at mile 24. Now I get to run in Boston and have everyone cheer me on, and hopefully Angela too. It is going to be the best experience and I hope to see everyone along the course and out for a celebratory drink after!!!
