A project of FOUNDATION FOR NATIONAL PROGRESS
Fund live national coverage of the May Day protests
On May 1, International Worker's Day, Occupy, labor and immigrant rights groups will hold marches, rallies and protests at over 45 cities across the United States.
Do you trust corporate media tell the story of the May Day actions? Do you trust corporate media to explain the messages of income inequality, workers' rights, immigrant rights, and more behind these actions?
IF YOUR ANSWER IS "NO", THEN SUPPORT MEDIA FOR THE 99%.
Can you imagine outlets like Mother Jones, AlterNet, the Nation, Free Speech TV, In These Times, Dissent, Yes magazine and many more, all working together to tell you the story of Occupy, labor and immigrant rights on May Day? Wow!
That's what we thought. So we're joining forces as Media for the 99% to tell the public the story of the May Day actions.
GIVE NOW! MAY 1 IS JUST DAYS AWAY!
On May 1, Media for the 99% will offer CNN-style round-the-clock coverage. More than 30 outlets and 50 reporters will be on scene at 45 different protests, providing live reporting and analysis. We'll capture that coverage via an all-day TV show from Free Speech TV, an interactive map showing you where actions are happening, and a great social media tool that sums up breaking news. You can find those tools at www.mediaforthe 99percent.com, or at your favorite independent media website.
The organization making all this happen is The Media Consortium. We're a national network of independent media outlets. We've created this kind of collaboration before, around the Wisconsin protest against Gov. Scott Walker. Then, we mobilized 10 outlets and put out 800 stories in just two weeks. Now, we're moving to a national scale, with 30 outlets.
We know how to tell this kind of breaking, national story. We also know that this kind of collaboration takes a lot of invisible, unsexy work to make happen. We need to pay a living wage to the project manager, to a tech crew, to interns and more. So we need your help.
SUPPORT THIS MAY DAY WORK BY GIVING NOW TO MEDIA FOR THE 99%.
We need to raise a lot of money. How will your $10 or $25 make a difference? We will pay our freelancers first. These people need to eat, and every dollar for them counts.
Every dollar you give also sends an important message to those who can afford much more. Foundations and major donors often move slowly, and look to see if projects have support.
We have committed to the May Day coverage. We won't turn back, even if we have to take a loss to make it happen. Your money keeps us in the black, but even more, it ensures we can do this work again.
GIVE NOW. THE CLOCK IS TICKING. YOUR MONEY REALLY MATTERS.
