Provide hope and a fresh start to mothers in recovery and their children.
Tonya was a struggling, pregnant mother, wondering whether or not she would make it in treatment at Recovery Resource Center. She was homeless. She had participated in seven pervious treatments prior to RRC. She was pregnant with her eighth child. She was tired of using drugs, which she had been using since the age of 13. Her other seven children were removed from her custody due to her drug use, and Tonya desperately wanted to be a parent to this baby. She learned about Recovery Resource Center’s Mothers Achieving Recovery for Family Unity (MARFU) program and decided it was time to make changes in her life.
Tonya completed treatment and continued to work with MARFU on sustaining her recovery. She was active in parenting groups and learned how to live a sober life and prepare for her baby to be born. In addition, RRC’s Family Recovery Housing gave her and her son a safe place to grow as a family.
As a result of the MARFU program and her persistence, Tonya was able to turn her life around. Her son was born during her stay at RRC and she began to practice the parenting skills she had learned. “I have my life back again,” states Tonya.
Tonya has focused on maintaining a safe environment and is living in sober supportive housing to continue to protect her recovery. She is attending school to obtain a degree in criminal justice. Her son will soon turn one year old, and her seven other children are building a new relationship with her. She has worked hard for her recovery, has become increasingly aware of how to maintain her sobriety, and is able to utilize her support network of family, friends and RRC counselor to keep moving forward.
