We are running to send kids to camp. For every donor, I'll add a piece of hockey equipment to run in!
Camp was an important time for me to develop intellectually, grow physically, and have fun as a kid. It made me step outside of my comfort zone, meet new friends, and explore new interests. This was no different than coming to college for the first time! Both at camp and in school, I learned more about myself and importance of having friends. I care about these kids and that they get the same opportunity (if not better) than I did as a kid.
Learn from Kids
During the regular season, I coach and youth mentor for “DinoMights – Hockey in the Hood” in South Minneapolis. The organization focuses on providing inner-city kids an opportunity to play hockey. However, I think DinoMights has done more for me than I’ve done for them. The players have taught me the importance of having good faith and direction in our lives. It's about having a balance between physical, academic, social, and spiritual excellence. They practice it each and every day. Kids that are in our program have a high school graduation rate of 85% compared to a graduation rate in the neighborhood of 45%.
We want to help kids create more memories and build lasting friendships with others. We hope you will join our crazy effort and fun. I'm hoping to get at least 10 donors. For ever donor, I'll add a piece of hockey equipment. I'm going to run a 5 mile stretch of a marathon, and hopefully in full hockey gear!
Kids Across America Camp
The camp we will be sending our kids to is Kids Across America. Because I never have seen this amazing place, my brother shared one counselor's story to wrap my hands around it. I invite you to read her story here: www.lexingtonprosecutor.com/?p=1285. Now, please join all of us in sending kids to camp this summer!
