We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions
through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that the Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors, and entire communities.
Established in 1996, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada currently serves children and families in Clark, Nye, Lincoln, and Esmeralda Counties. Since its inception, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada has granted over 1,300 wishes for the children of Southern Nevada.
Wish-granting is an ongoing program providing medically eligible children in our geographic area the opportunity to have one true wish granted. Wishes, each of which are as unique as the wish child, generally fall into one of four categories: I wish to GO… I wish to MEET… I wish to BE… I wish to HAVE…
Wish children are found through referrals which come from many sources such as doctor’s offices, social workers, school nurses and the families themselves. Once a child has been
referred to us by an appropriate source, their Doctor is asked to confirm in writing that the child’s condition is indeed life-threatening. Any child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition between the ages of 2½ and 18 is eligible for a wish. Due to the fragile condition of many of the children served, every effort is made to grant each wish in a timely manner from receipt of referral. However, in the case of an emergency, i.e. the quickening deterioration of the child’s condition, we have arranged for a child to visit Disneyland, or meet a celebrity within 48 hours (as examples).
