A project of HARVEST HOME ANIMAL SANCTUARY
Rudy, the victim of a callous hit-and-run incident, needs emergency surgery to walk again. Can you make a miracle happen for Rudy?
Rudy's injuries are by far the worst we've ever seen in a duck rescued by our sanctuary. He is suffering from a multitude of serious injuries, including:
Right now, Rudy, a domestic duck, is at the UC Davis Small Hospital for emergency vet care. He needs immediate surgery to repair his leg and pelvis. Without surgery, Rudy's quality of life is extremely low.
What happened to Rudy?
Abandoned at a golf course in Alameda, California, a kindhearted animal rescuer found Rudy emaciated and in extreme pain in mid-August 2012. He stayed briefly at Wildcare in Marin County before making his way to Harvest Home Sanctuary in Stockton.
Rudy's injuries are consistent with being hit by a fast-moving vehicle. During the summer months, it's all too common for unwanted ducks (originally purchased from county fairs, feedstores and mail-order hatcheries) to be dumped in public places. Unlike their wild counterparts, domestic ducks cannot thrive on their own. Abandoned domestic ducks are extremely vulnerable to predation and tragic vehicle encounters.
Rudy's story is a prime example of why animals should never be purchased and subsequently abandoned.
Give Rudy the Brave Duck a second chance at life today!
