Help Windcall provide residencies that transform the lives of social justice organizers so that they may more ably transform our society
Friends: Along with my work at the Center for Community Action, I have volunteered and provided leadership with two national organizations: the Guild for Spiritual Guidance and Windcall. Windcall is presently having a seasonal fundraising drive to raise $13,000 in 130 hours. I have committed to helping raise $1,000.00. That’s why I’m writing you.
Windcall is a very special program. It is a program of personal and professional transformation for social justice organizers across these United States. Of all the people in our nation that need our support, it is the unsung heroes and heroines who work on the grassroots level to transform where we live into more just and caring communities and states. Many social justice organizers work long hours with low pay and don’t honor themselves with the space needed to nurture, support, love, and transform themselves into even more powerful and creative leaders. This is the purpose of Windcall.
I first went to Windcall in 1990 in its first full year of operation. My experience at Windcall that summer in Montana changed my life. I not only experienced rest and renewal. I also experienced a powerful transformation of mind, body, and spirit. At Windcall, I let go of the devastation of many storms in my life, found new life force and balance, and cultivated deep compassion, wisdom, and strength for the journey forward and work ahead. As chair of the Site Committee for Windcall, I returned again in 2007 to evaluate a new site on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. I had an even more profound experience during my second experience because I knew what to expect and knew how to make the most of such a valuable gift and opportunity. On both occasions, Windcall was one of the most precious gifts that I ever received in my life.
Social justice organizers across the nation apply to go to Windcall. It is a competitive process because we can’t assist everyone. The Selection Committee chooses social justice organizers to go to Windcall who have a significant need for it and demonstrate that they are committed to their own transformation as well as that of their community.
I am writing to invite you to participate in supporting and providing the gift of compassion and transformation to a social justice organizer from across our nation.
Windcall has already received matching funds to double every single gift until we reach our $13,000.00 goal. Every dollar that you donate will be automatically doubled. Please join me in making a contribution today to support the well-being of those who have committed their lives to promoting ours.
