I am raising money to help build a bridge in Nicaragua which will connect a community to medical care, education, market and jobs.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

In the summer of 2010 I helped build my first suspended pedestrian bridge in Zambia that was over 50 meters long. Following the Zambia bridge I came back to Iowa and a group of students, myself included, decided we wanted to help another community and build another bridge.

Over the 2010-2011 school year our group of five students designed a suspended pedestrian bridge for a community in Nicaragua. Then in the summer of 2011 we traveled down to Nicaragua to build the bridge that we had designed. The bridge was able to be completed do to our partner ship with Bridges to Prosperity, Peace Corps and then numerous community support especially Shoemaker and Haaland. As well, I would personally really like to thank my family for their continuous support and encouragment.

Over the 2011-2012 year I have brought together another group of students to once again design and then construct a pedestrian bridge in Nicaragua. We will again be partnering with Bridges to Prosperity, Peace Corps and looking for support from local businesses, friends and family to help us reach our fundraising goal of $7000 dollars which will cover the cost of supplies for the bridge.

In the current community we are working in, the bridge will be helping approximately 200 people. During the rainy season people have died from treatable sicknesses because they were unable to get to a hospital for weeks at a time, almost every student that attempts to attend secondary school drops out once the rainy season begins because the amount of school they miss. as well, most of the elementary teachers are unable to get to school to teach the students and almost the entire community is unable to get to market to get food for weeks at a time.
