Lindy Hardin - San Antonio Pets Alive! Mutt Milers Run Team
Lindy Hardin fundraising for San Antonio Pets Alive Inc.
Last year was my first marathon...and was going to be my last, but I found a cause bigger than a bucket list for round 2! Please help SAPA!
Last year I was obsessed with completing my first marathon. As many of you guys are painfully aware, lately my life has been taken over by a new non-profit struggling to make San Antonio a No-Kill City. So this year I figured - let's Multitask a bit! Train for my 2nd Marathon for a Paws Cause. I'm running for all of the homeless animals in San Antonio. I hope you will donate a little to help me and our Mutt Miler's run team raise some MUCH needed money for this new organization. Hopefully the below stats are enough to nudge to a little dollar or two.
Last year, over 30,000 pets were taken in by Animal Care Services, of these almost 19,000 pets were killed (63%) that’s an average of over 50 per day.Of these 19,000, 8,000 were puppies and kittens - nearly all were healthy/treatable and adoptable. 2011 projected intake is 40K animals! Since SAPA! has started in January 2012, we've been saving 24% of those animals set to be euthanized... there is HOPE!!!!
We are currently focused on helping the healthy and treatable pets who are at risk of being killed in a shelter, by rescuing the pets who are at the greatest risk and helping owners who are having problems so great that they need to surrender their pet(s) to a shelter.
In our rescue program, to not duplicate work of other agencies, we focus solely on the pets who have already been passed over by other groups and the shelters’ adoption programs and only take the healthy and treatable pets who are about to be killed and have no other options.
