Prevent future losses to the community’s

Our target population is predominately rural communities of Grand Bay, St. Elmo, Theodore, Irvington, Bayou La Batre, and Tillman’s Corner, representing over 26,414 residents. Approximately 41% of these families have children aged 18 years or younger. Over 34% of these families are single parent households who must work full time and often unable to supervise their children after school. These community residents are some of the most impoverished in Mobile County, working in low-wage retail, shipbuilding and seafood related occupations. Housing We are in the process of pre-qualifying over 30 prospective buyers for our first Home Buyer Counseling workshop. Lighthouse Community Development has completed the construction of several homes. We faced increasing cost of materials, supplies and labor. Our construction crews included several skilled laborers from this community, including one of our volunteer board members offering his talents and time to assist in this community development. In an effort to look to the future and provide leadership in the community, we implemented a Housing Construction Apprenticeship Program for our young adults to learn the home construction trade. We work with them in their chosen field and they gain valuable on-site construction experience
