Life for Relief and Development is a non-profit humanitarian charity founded in 1992 by concerned Arab and Muslim American professionals in response to the humanitarian crises that developed in Iraq as a result of the 1991 Gulf War.

Today, Life for Relief and Development has become the largest U.S.-founded Muslim American humanitarian relief and development organization. Life is devoted to providing humanitarian aid to people regardless of race, color, religion and cultural background with an annual budget of over $60 million. Life is in Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It is also a member of InterAction, the largest alliance of US based international development and humanitarian non-governmental organization, is CFC certified and has a 4-star Charity Navigator rating. Life is 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

Due to the great generosity of donors, Life has been able to distribute over $300 million in humanitarian assistance items and in the process, kindly touched millions of lives. Life works diligently to help the poor and needy in a number of countries such as Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Palestinian Territories (through our office in Israel), Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Somalia, Ethiopia and the US as well as others. When natural disasters occur here or around the world, Life rushes to answer the call of humanitarian duty, and provides emergency food, water, medical aid, and temporary shelter.

In addition to Life’s emergency relief efforts which address immediate needs during crises, it also has a number of long term programs it implements throughout the year, including: building and maintaining medical clinics, providing medicines and medical equipment to hospitals and clinics, providing wheelchairs and other equipment for the handicapped, building and repairing water purification plants, digging water wells, building and repairing schools, as well as providing educational books to schools, colleges, and universities. Some of our programs include running low cost medical clinics in poor neighborhoods in Iraq and providing educational books and materials to Native American schools in various states.

Life has established partnerships with many international NGO’s including UNDP, UNICEF, Brother’s Brother Foundation, AmeriCares, Veterans For Peace, MedWish International, Medical Teams International, Another Joy Foundation, Feed the Children, Qatar Charity, and Mohammad Bin Rashid Charity, as well as many others. Life is also a member of the American Council for Voluntary International Action (InterAction), which is the largest alliance of American international NGO’s.
