Make 2012 a Year of Inspiration for Haiti!

January 12, 2012 marks the two-year anniversary of the Haiti earthquake. For two years, every story and image from Haiti has reminded us of the lives lost and those still homeless. We have felt the anguish and the frustration. You have heard the good, the bad and the ugly about the recovery efforts.

We have seen it all.

Please join me in expecting something different, in planning for something better in 2012. On the eve of another critical milestone for Haiti’s rebuilding, we can’t afford one more moment of being overwhelmed or waiting. It’s time to get inspired.

Here’s what inspires me: high-impact projects that succeed. Let Haiti Live mobilizes Haitians and supports Haitian-led solutions. This is the kind of development that works in Haiti, that fulfills the promise of every dollar donated by turning it into something more.

Please help us make inspiration the theme of 2012 by making a donation today! Let Haiti Live was founded on the belief that only Haitians can determine the solutions to the challenges the country faces today. Let Haiti Live’s programs are created and executed by teams of talented Haitians committed to improving the situation of the most marginalized members of their communities. American team members seek support, build relationships and lead advocacy and media efforts in the international arena.

We need your help today to help make 2012 a year that finally brings something different in Haiti, after two years of stagnant recovery and continued suffering. Will you make a donation now for inspiration in 2012?

Let Haiti Live supports two talented teams of Haitians (Reforest Haiti and Bri Kouri Nouvèl Gaye - Noise Travels, News Spreads) who create and execute all our programs on the ground. The staff of Let Haiti Live are the most inspiring and hard-working individuals I have ever worked with.

In 2011 the Let Haiti Live team:

  • Advocated for the housing solutions for the more than one and a half million left homeless after the earthquake so they could access fundamental human rights including shelter, water, and security.
  • Worked with hundreds of internally displaced families under threat of eviction to record their stories, help them access legal assistance, and assist them in understanding and mobilizing for their basic human rights.
  • Provided popular education about fundamental human rights, cholera prevention, and civic participation to Haiti’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations, both the rural and urban poor.
  • Provided training on how to protect the environment while increasing nutrition for families through or JADPE program, (Youth in Action for Development and Protection of the Environment).

We are dreaming big for the future of Haiti. In 2012 we are planning:

  • A training module on environmental law and civic participation that is tested and replicable anywhere in Haiti.
  • 5-8 training and exchange programs between June to December 2012.
  • Video, photographic and written reports that include best practices shared during these exchanges available for widespread distribution.
  • An advocacy campaign that encompasses both environmental concerns and ways to enhance food security on the local, national and international level.

A gift of only $25 translates into a lot on the ground. For the cost of a lunch out, our Reforest Haiti program can plant fifteen trees through our JADPE youth program, or fund a popular education seminar with homeless families in a Port-au-Prince Internally Displaced Persons camp.

Please support Let Haiti Live’s unique and critical voice. No other organization is simultaneously working with Haitians to mobilize the most marginalized and vulnerable members of society to change their conditions of life while speaking truth to the highest levels of power in Haiti and the United States.
