Leonardo’s Basement
Leonardo’s Basement is a one-of-a-kind creative learning environment for “kids” of all ages to design and build from their imagination.
Since 1998, Leonardo's Basement has worked to inspire over 9,000 young people to learn critical thinking & technical skills and to become enthusiastic, creative problem solvers.
“I love it here. There are people just like me.”
Nine-year-old Sarah captured the sentiment of many participants in programs at Leonardo’s Basement.
Small class sizes allow for over 30 amazing teachers and 12 assistants, including experienced high school students, to personalize instruction. This is even more important for the growing number of students with special learning needs that are drawn to our hand-on classes.
One-fourth of the students receive scholarships and your gift will make it possible for all children to experience the pride and satisfaction that comes from designing and building projects that they take home for further experimentation.
Creative project building events, workshops and classes for families, kids, teens and adults take place all year at our workshops in south Minneapolis and the Hamline-Midway community in Saint Paul. You can also find us at schools, libraries and community centers across the Twin Cities. For more information visit us at

###### We need Volunteers & Supplies, too! ######
Over 100 volunteers donate over 2,000 hours each year. Generous donations from individuals and businesses are crucial to support imaginative building. If you are interested in volunteering or want to donate really cool supplies or building materials, contact us at info@leonardosbasement.org.
