About Us
Mission
To serve Le Sueur and its surrounding areas by supporting programs and projects that improve the quality of life in the community and that build a stronger community.
Purpose
To sustain, foster, and enhance the work that began with the 2006 Le Sueur Town Meeting Initiative.
Aims
To assist citizens in developing their leadership skills so they can effectively work to create a vital community.
History
In 2006, the community of Le Sueur participated in the Town Meeting Initiative (TMI) sponsored by the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. The purpose and results of the Le Sueur TMI was to:
Increase civic engagement
Identify new community leaders
Build on existing assets in our community
The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation led Le Sueur through the process and provided a $12,000 matching grant to help fund projects that the community decided to do.
Projects that resulted from the TMI:
Le Sueur Design Team
Envision Le Sueur 2020
Le Sueur Clothes Closet Reorganization and Relocation
River Park Trails and Improvement Committee
Why a Community Foundation?
The TMI process was the beginning of something great in Le Sueur. Citizens working together to create a welcoming community, and building off what we already have in our community - including physical AND human assets - was a new approach for us.
In addition to the TMI projects, there have been and currently are several other citizen based community projects in Le Sueur.
In order to encourage and sustain the continuing efforts of community projects, the Le Sueur Community Foundation was formed.
The benefits are:
People can give money to the foundation and know that it will be used to improve the community of Le Sueur through citizen based projects.
The foundation can connect those who want to get things done with those who have the ability and means to do them.
By promoting civic engagement and empowerment, there is an increased sense of community, identity and responsibility.
