Hello, my name is Lawrynce Cecio and I am venturing to the United Nations this year representing Switzerland at the Montessori Model United Nations.

I will have the experience of designing resolutions to benefit the future of the Earth. My topic involves helping the whopping 80% of the world in poverty. This year I will be studying Micro Financing for Emerging Markets. One of the reasons for large amounts of people in poverty is because they can't break the vicious cycle, the cycle being the people not having safe places to keep their money.

They can't take loans out they have no money to support their loans and can't afford the and if the interest rates are too high in which case they trade in their money for possessions such as jewelry or livestock which can be stolen or destroyed.

They also can't store their money in the safe environment if they don't meet the minimum requirement of money. My topic is on micro financing institutions or MFIs. MFIs they are safe places for people in poverty to keep their money not unlike banks but with no minimum requirement and low loan interest rates.

Lately there have been accusations that MFIs are profiting off of people In poverty and perhaps these rumors are true because of rising rates of loan defaults and increasing reports of suicide by desperate borrowers.

My goal is to make sure the MFIs are not profiting off of people in poverty then making sure people in poverty are able to have access to these institutions. I am excited to go to the U.N but I need your help to change the world.

It is clear that MFIs can cause great good and great bad. I am going to make sure that is used for good. This experience will encourage me to know I can make a difference.
