Law Enforcement United - Remembering the Survivors
Mike Freeman fundraising for Law Enforcement United, Inc.
Your support will honor the service and sacrifice of all LE officers that have died in the line of duty.
Having visited the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial many times during my 26 years in police work, I believe it is vitally important to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. My motivation to ride and to support this great cause was further enhanced during 2009, when I met a courageous gentleman, a heroic police survivor, and a great dad.
Mr. David Hicks is the father of FBI Special Agent (SA) Samuel Hicks, killed in the line of duty on November 19, 2008, while serving a narcotics search warrant in Indiana Township, Pennsylvania. David attended my agency's Citizens' Academy in 2009. Mr. Hicks attended the eight-week Academy because he wanted to learn more about his son's chosen profession. Like most in law enforcement, SA Hicks was truly devoted to his job. His professional passion was eclipsed only by his devotion to his family - Brooke, his wife and son, Noah.
On May 10, 2010, Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement Officers will bicycle 250 miles from Chesapeake, Virginia to Washington, DC to participate in National Peace Officer Memorial Day services. Law Enforcement United specifically supports the Officer Down Memorial Page (www.odmp.org) and Concerns of Police Survivors (www.nationalcops.org).
I'm honored to wear Sam's name on my rider's bracelet - but even more honored to remember and support the police survivors like Mr. Hicks, Brooke, Noah, and the rest of SA Hicks' family, friends, and co-workers.
