I am going Kolkata, India in February 2013 for 11 days to love and serve the women and children who live in the Khalpar slum.
Welcome family and friends! I'm so glad you are here. As some of you know, I attend a church here in Nashville called Crosspoint. Through my church, I have been given an opportunity to go to Kolkata, India and serve the women and children living in the Khapar slum. These are some of the people in the world that live on less than $2 a day.
Crosspoint partners with a local organization in Kolkata called SEED society. SEED stands for Save Entrust Equip Disciple Society. This organization works to provide children with schools and feeding programs within the slums, and gives women the opportunity to learn vocational skills such as sewing and jewelry making. They have established three churches in the area since beginning their work in 2009. I am excited to learn about and serve with an organization that is truly making a lasting improvement in people's lives through education of the children and empowerment of women. During my trip, I specifically will be involved in the VBS program for the children.
As some of you know, I took at trip to India in 1999 to Chennai when I was 18. I have had a desire to return and serve as an adult, and feel God has placed this opportunity in front of me. I have felt a calling in my heart in the past year for action in my life. Action to leave my comfort zone. To do more than listen and discuss my faith. To truly love others radically the way God loves me. Please pray for me as I begin the process of preparing for this trip and most importantly that God can USE me however he can to shine his light and love to these underserved people. Thank you!
