Help CSM launch men's and women's NJCAA lacrosse programs for the Spring 2014 season.
OUR GOAL AT CSM is to launch men's and women's lacrosse programs and start recruiting in 2013. We are seeking support to start NJCAA Lacrosse teams for women and men for the Spring 2014 season.
Southern Maryland college-bound lacrosse players leave the region to play at the community colleges in Anne Arundel, Harford, Baltimore and Howard counties to continue their education and athletic aspirations. With few options for high school studnets to play a the collegiate level, CSM wants to help these student-athletes REALIZE their POTENTIAL both in the classroom and on the field.
Lacrosse is one of the nation's fastest-growing team sports. More than 680,000 players participate in lacrosse, according to the 2011 U.S. Lacrosse Participation Survey. Participation is particularly exploding at the youth level, with more than 360,000 youth players on organized teams in 2011, a one-year increase of 7.8 percent.
Lacrosse is expanding at the college level, with colleges throughout the nation, both large and small, adding programs: 30 new varsity programs this year and another48 are set to begin in 2013. Maryland ranks first among states with the most lacrosse players (Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Massachussetts, Virginia).
The new CSM lacrosse men's and women's lacrosse programs will attract at least 55 full-time student-athletes; increasing athletic opportunities at CSM by approximately 30%.
