As most of you know my mom was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in the fall of 2000. It is a time I will never forget and never hope to go through again. No one wants to hear someone so close to them is facing cancer. My mom Cathy Thorlakson was a tremendous fighter. Her cancer had progressed very far by the time they caught it and they didn't give her the best odds. But thanks to the support family, friends, some good doctors, and the developments of modern medicine she was able to make it five years. She was able to see the weddings of both my sisters and 5 grandchildren born. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish she was still here with us. My hope is that by continuing to do these triathlons and other cancer fundraising events I will help even just one family avoid what we have gone through.
