As many of you know Jamie and I met Mr. Ward in June of 2010 when an offer to donate a cake to his foundation fundraiser in Atlanta gave us the opportunity of a lifetime. We were invited by the foundation to attend one of the dinner events where we not only had the chance to talk to Hines about his passion for the foundation but recognized his extreme appreciation to all of the attendees and any person who had contributed to his event and his goal of supporting this foundation.
While Hines was a very busy man and was beckoned on every few seconds at the event, he took the time to really talk to us and over and over again humbly acknowledged how much he appreciated all of the effort that we put forth to not only create and donate a cake for the event but to make the trip from Maryland and just be a part of the event. Here I was star struck in his presence but he was the one that made me feel like the star. We met many other amazing people that night and Jamie and I made a commitment to not only try to be a part of this event every year but to do what we could to help Hines in is goal to help all children gain confidence and acceptance in who they are as a human being.
While we may not be able to personally donate thousands of dollars, or even attend this event every year, we hope our friends and family will donate any amount they can to this foundation. Children are so impressionable and often dont realize that they are the ones that hold the key to their success and a happy life. If we can help build confidence, get them to accept who they are (regardless of where they come from, what race they are, and what negative things other people may say about them), we just may be able to make their futures a little brighter and our country a better place.
Hines will personally match the first $20,000 in donations for this event so please help us get there.
