Kevin's running in the TD Bank Beach to Beacon to support Day One

Day One is Maine’s oldest and largest provider of substance abuse prevention and treatment services for Maine’s youth. We operate a residential treatment center in Hollis as well as a transitional house in Portland, out-patient services in South Portland, and counseling services at the two youth detention centers operated by the State of Maine.

I recently spent an evening at the Long Creek Youth Center where Day One provides substance abuse counseling services for the juvenile "inmates". One boy,"Tom", who used to play sports at Portland High, is locked up simply because of the consequences of his substance abuse problem. His treatment comes at a far greater cost than it would had his addictions been treated earlier. Fortunately "Tom" now has a plan to deal with his problems and, more importantly, some hope. It's nights like these that remind me why I'm a board member and volunteer for Day One.
