Team Running for Cover is running the 2013 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support MFNE's mission of education, prevention and support.
Dear Friend, I am running in this years 117th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday April 15th to support the Melanoma Foundation of New England’s (MFNE) mission of education, support, and advocacy in the fight against melanoma. This cause is very important to me. As many of you know, I lost my younger sister three years ago to melanoma. Denise, was a 44 year old mother of three when she was diagnosed, she passed less than a year later. Prior to being diagnosed, Denise worked for Unison Industries where she started up and chaired the Relay for Life Campaign for the American Cancer Society. In the company’s first year of holding the Relay for Life Campaign they raised some $35,000 to help others. Denise was recognized by GE for her tireless efforts and amazing accomplishment in getting this campaign started at her company. Her co-workers continue the annual campaign, paying her efforts forward. I was so inspired by both her battle, and amazing accomplishment, that I have decided to pick up her torch and willingness to help others as well. But I need your help. The 26.2 miles is the least I can do, and I will gladly face alone in honor of her, but I need your help in getting to the finish line. I ask all of you to please support me by making a donation to MFNE to my run and helping me reach my goal of $8,000 to support the foundations life-saving work. I have been serious about my training and running over the past couple years, always wearing Denise’s cancer cap taking her with me on each and every run, and she will be with me for every stride of this 26.2 mile journey. Please join us in helping others. We need your support. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. It is the 2nd most common cancer in teens and young adults ages 15-29. When caught early, it is almost always curable. MFNE’s mission is to reduce the incidence of melanoma in the New England region.
Since it's inception in 2006, Running for Cover has raised over $1 million to support MFNE. I am thirlled to be a part of this team for the 2013 Boston Marathon. I will also be running in honor of Cathy Shea Sonnenberg, (pictured above right). Shown here is Cathy volunteering at last years 2012 Boston Marathon handing our water bottles and snacks to the runners. Cathy was diagnosed in 2011 and continues to receive great support from the foundation in her battle. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Cathy, but will soon..as we team up for this great cause.
Help me cross the finish line by donating to my fundraising efforts so that Cathy and others may continue to benefit. Together we can help reduce the incidents of Melanoma in the New England area.
This is a tax deductable charitable donation. You will receive a receipt upon check out for your tax purposes. The MFNE Tax ID # is: 04-3478266
