The 16th Annual Iron Hill 5K Run/Walk Against Domestic Violence raises funds to support CHILD, Inc. work with victims of domestic violence.

An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Their children are also impacted. Witnessing violence between one’s parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next. Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.

Help CHILD, Inc. provide emergency shelter and counseling for victims of domestic violence and their children by supporting the 16th Annual Iron Hill 5K Run/Walk Against Domestic Violence on May 5, 2012.

You can make a contribution, register for the race at www.childinc.com/ironhill5k and/or set up your own fundraising page.

Every gift is critical to our success! Thanks for your support and generosity!

A Note from a Victim of Domestic Violence Helped by CHILD, Inc.

I remember calling the hotline and hanging up feeling embarrassed to reveal my deep dark secret about my abusive relationship. My marriage was abusive for 10 years and I always thought that bad because we had a beautiful house, beautiful children and nobody had to know--right....

Anyway, I will always be forever grateful and thankful to all the counselors and to CHILD, Inc. But mostly to Sarah's House for giving me the support and caring that I needed to get through such a traumatic time of my life. I was all alone, abused, betrayed and abandoned by my husband.

I was homeless in October and spent all of the holidays without anyone--but Sarah's House. And for that I am forever grateful. Thank you so much!
