Help send me to INDIA!! Anything you can give will help. =)
Dear Friends and Family,
First of all, how are you doing? I hope and pray that God is doing many wonderful things in your life as he is in mine. This past year has served as one that has been challenging, but at the same time I have been blessed beyond belief. As most of you know I was laid off in June. As hard as that was, God had something exciting planned for me. For the past 5 months I have been interning at Christ’s Church of the Valley in their local and global outreach department. I have been given the opportunity to help coordinate some amazing events in our community. First we held a Spa day for about 400 single moms in need. It was such a blessing to watch moms, who were broken and hurting, be able to be pampered and feel special for the day! Next was our Thanksgiving outreach. We were able to deliver full uncooked meals the week before Thanksgiving to about 700 families who thought they would not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. I can’t tell you the feeling of calling a family and letting them know that we will be taking care of their Thanksgiving meal. People crying out of gratitude and hearing the relief in their voices was something that I will remember in my heart forever. The day of Thanksgiving I was able to lead a site in Pomona where we served fully cooked meals to the neighborhood around us. Being able to sit down with someone while they enjoyed a hot meal and just asking them about their life, playing with the kids, and just loving on these people made for the best Thanksgiving Day possible. The last event we did was hosting a Christmas Toy Store where families came and were able to let their children pick out toys for Christmas, and then enjoy a full meal afterwards. The looks on the children’s faces were priceless and forever engraved in my heart. The tears of parents who were not going to be able to buy presents this year was something I will never forget. The phone calls I personally received from crying parents have left me speechless. Suddenly not having a job, not having money, not being able to live comfortably is no longer important in my life. God had a plan all along and being laid off was part of it. If I had a job, none of the last 5 months would have been possible, nor would the opportunity I am about to share with you seem possible.
I have a challenging ministry opportunity that God has presented me with. This Winter I have been given the opportunity to Co-Lead a trip to Damoh, INDIA!! The trip will be about 2 weeks long. Poverty is widespread in India, with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor. We will be given the opportunity to work in various hospitals, orphanages, women’s homes, and to live amongst the people of India learning more about them and their culture. We will be given the chance to love the sick, the brokenhearted, and the weak. In the words of Mother Teresa “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” We will be given the chance to show this in an area of the world that so lacks in the idea of love. I will be able to do something beautiful for God, just as Mother Teresa set out to do.
While the door has been opened for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for his people around the world, the exciting part is that you will be able to share in my journey in different ways. First, if you believe in praying, my team and I can really use your prayers. Pray that God will prepare us for our journey and keep us safe along the way. Also pray that our financial needs will be met. We each need about $3,400 to attend this trip, and that is quite the challenge!
Whether you feel led to contribute financially, through prayer, or both, all of your support is appreciated. This past year has been one of pain, strength, and complete humbleness. I am blessed by this opportunity and honored that I have been chosen to go. I thank you in advance for your prayers and your financial support. I am blessed to be able to do the things my heart calls me to do. First I got to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by running marathons and now I get to take my passion of serving God to a country that is hurting and needs help. Thank you for supporting me in all I set out to do! Take care and God Bless!
