Justin Roman Boston Marathon 2012 - Playworks Fundraiser

My name is Justin Roman, and I am a runner, husband, and medical student. My wife is finishing her masters in Health Education and was the first person to really get me involved in trying to improve the health of children and fight the childhood obesity epidemic that is taking over our nation.

It seemed almost like fate this year that I found Playworks and was chosen to run for their charity team in the 2012 Boston Marathon. My wife and I both qualified for the Boston Marathon this year. I have run Boston 2 times before, but this will be my wife's first year of running Boston. We decided to make the occassion worth more than just our first Boston Marathon together, so we began the search for a cause we could contribute to.

That's when I started looking into charities to run with. I found Playworks and realized that this was something that I was really passionate about and would love to put in the time and effort to raise money for. Playworks is working hard to promote health and well-being among children through in- and out-of-school programs that encourage meaningful play. They provide trained professionals at schools all around the Boston area initially, and now have even branched out to over 241 cities. They develop lifelong skills for children to lead a healthy life.
