JUMPSTART FOR YOUNG CHILDREN INC

Every child deserves the chance to succeed, yet studies show that children from low-income neighborhoods are at a greater risk of school failure. Jumpstart is a national early education organization that helps these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be successful in school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.

Since 1993, Jumpstart has trained nearly 25,000 college students and community volunteers to deliver its program to more than 100,000 preschool children nationwide.

Jumpstart recruits and trains college students and community volunteers to deliver a high quality early education curriculum to preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. During their school year together, children develop skills they need to be ready to start school, setting them on a path for lifelong success.

Currently, Jumpstart partners 284 Corps members to work with almost 800 Washington D.C. preschool children living in low-income neighborhoods in and around the district. The preschools that Jumpstart works with in Washington D.C. are some of the most under resourced schools in the country. The almost 800 preschool students that Jumpstart's Washington D.C. college students work with each week during the school year live in the city's lowest income neighborhoods.

Together, for the entire 2011-2012 school year, Corps members will work with children on the language and literacy skills these children need to succeed not only in school, but also in life.
