Songwriting Works™ is raising funds to match a $10,000 Challenge America grant from the National Endowment for the Arts! Can you join me?
YOUR tax-deductible GIFT of $35, $75, $125, $300 or more will allow SW to expand its songwriting workshops, events and trainings, and match an NEA grant to record a new CD with notable professional musicians and release it in celebration at SW’s 3rd annual community SongFest in November 2013.
Between Dec 26, 2012 and Jan 15, 2013 your donation will be MATCHED TWICE - by the NEA Challenge grant and an anonymous donor.
Every dollar will support SW in its mission to restore health and community through song. SW has a 23-year track record of songwriting with communities to turn isolation into connection, depression into happiness and illness into health - on the Olympic Peninsula, in California, and across the US and beyond.
With your support SW's team of professional songwriters will bring the power of music to those who need it most: • Elders in residential care settings
• Loved ones of people living with Alzheimer's disease, related dementias and chronic illness • Veterans • Isolated, low-income rural and urban older adults • Teens and young adults at-risk
Songs written with Songwriting Works are composed collectively in a 'failure free zone.' Everyone is invited to participate because everyone has musical intelligence and creativity to contribute to a group song. This is true no matter one's age, education, experience, culture or physical, cognitive or mental health situation. Together, groups write memorable songs that sound like them – because each person's words, melodies and gestures are retrained in whatever forms of music – folk, pop, jazz, country, blues, rock, gospel and more – they choose. (Think of it as "song quilting" or "musical mural painting.) Songs are then shared with audiences of all ages and transform attitudes about aging, ability and creativity!
