Jon Gale fundraising for Summer Search
I'm co-fundraising with my daughter as I gear up to run the Boston Marathon for charity
****THANK YOU TO MY LEAD SPONSOR: GREENWICH CONSTRUCTION (www.greenwichconstruction.com)****
Friends,
Thank you for visiting my marathon fundraising page! I am running the Boston Marathon for an organization called Summer Search.
Summer Search takes low-income high school students of all academic abilities and invests in their futures. Each Summer Searcher receives:
-Two full scholarships to summer experiential learning programs with partners including Outward Bound, Brown University, and many more. (Many students leave their city for the first time to go on these programs!)
-Year-round intensive weekly mentoring from full-time, highly trained staff
-One-on-one college advising and SAT preparation, and
-Alumni support upon graduation.
Many of our own children received these services, and maybe we didn’t think much of it. But Summer Searchers come from neighborhoods plagued with violent crime, extreme poverty and homelessness, and dramatically underperforming inner-city schools. Most low-income students see no path to college: they work all the time to support their families; they don’t know how to access scholarship funds; and they don’t know how to interact with peers of different backgrounds. In fact, only 11% of low income students ever graduate from a four-year college. By contrast, 85% of the Boston site’s almost 1,000 alumni have graduated from college or remain on track to do so.
THANK YOU for supporting my fundraising efforts! With your support, I know I can cross that finish line. Together, we are directly working towards a better future for America’s youth.
**Please note: I am soliciting corporate sponsorship and would be happy to discuss opportunities with any businesses**
