Everyone needs a hero. Especially now.

Everyone needs a hero. Especially now.

We don’t mean the comic book kind.

Or the star athlete signing autographs after the game.

We’re not talking about fame and glory.

We’re talking about human spirit. And real resilience.

At WestCoast Children’s Clinic we see heroes every day.

Jason is afraid of monsters at night.

His monster is Mom’s drunk boyfriend and a belt.

He doesn’t sleep.

But he gets up for math class every morning.

Algebra is easier than home.

Kari doesn’t know where she will sleep tonight.

School lunch is her only meal of the day.

But it's enough to get her through basketball practice.

This is resilience. But resiliency is not enough.

And do we really want it to be?

Jason’s monsters might eventually trump math.

Kari might survive on her school’s Sloppy Joes.

Or she might sell herself for tonight’s dinner.

There are infinite possibilities.

But the immediate choices are stark.

We all know what happens if we don’t take action.

Poverty + Abuse + Neglect = Lousy outcomes x thousands of children.

We are WestCoast Children’s Clinic. We help change the formula.

We can be that one person.

A critical connection.

The difference between hope and despair.

We help children discover who they are and who they can become.

It’s not magic. But it is transformational.

The lousy outcomes fade. Possibilities expand.

Stay in school. Sleep at night. Safely.

Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Without paying for it with dignity.

Kids can’t make these changes alone.

Neither can we.

1600 children served each year = 1600 possibilities for change.

We change the equation. One hour at a time.

Healthier children = Stronger community.

Multiply that by future generations.

You are part of the solution.
