To run or not to run? That is the question. TO RUN! I chose to run in the 116th Boston Marathon on April 16th 2012.

Most times you run for your heart, but sometimes you get an opportunity to run with your heart. I will have the honor and privelage to do both for the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton, MA. The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton has served its youth for over 50 years and is the premier youth serving agency for the city of Newton and surrounding area. Their Mission: Recognizing that all youth are at risk, the club inspires and enables young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. I couldn't be more excited and proud. Growing up I had access to and participated in a variety of youth sports and activities that looking back truly offered enriching life experiences in a unique learning environment. Along the way I was able to meet some great individuals, coaches and mentors' whose guidance and encouragement cannot be overstated. As I train for the marathon, with all the commitment and time that it demands, I often find myself reflecting on some of the life lessons I was able to experience under the leadership of the men, women and peers I admire to this day. All of those opportunities were made possible because I was involved in youth activities: these were positive experiences in my life. The Boys & Girls Club fosters such an environment for our youth who may not have the opportunity otherwise.

Not everyone can run for their heart in the Marathon but your heart can run with mine by making a donation to the John M. Barry Boys and Girls Club of Newton, MA. If like me you would like to give back to those that were there for you here is an opportunity to do so.

If you would like to have your donation honor a coach, mentor, educator or someone that made an impact in your young life or a loved ones, send the name to me and I will carry it on an embroidered towel and run them across the finish line with us. For this dedication I am asking for a special minimum donation of $125.00, which is the amount to provide one child with a full one year sholarship to the club.

With our hearts in the right place, together we can make a difference in a young persons life by helping to create more opportunities, and open more doors for our youth, our future.

Thank you for visiting this page and I thank you VERY much for your donation.

Suggestion: Tie one on tonight before tomorrow's warm-up and wash it all down with a morning Piermanti Bros. Cheesesteak. Knowing you can overcome that kind of adversity is the key to marathon success.

"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that." -Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder. See John, this easy it doesn't even matter if you win.
