UPDATE (FEBRUARY 10)

So it only took nine days to reach my goal of $2800. And I thought $2800 was going to be a stretch. Thanks to everyone who made a gift!

There are still 18 days before my birthday so I want to keep this fundraiser going. My parents, Brad and Joanie, along with my sister Briana, my aunt Janet, my grandpa Kermit and grandma Aileen, and my grandma June, put some money together and created a $500 matching grant. Yes, my family is amazing.

My 28th birthday is on February 28th. Yep, it's my golden birthday. And this year, instead of gifts, I want you to help me raise $2800 for OutFront Minnesota.

OutFront Minnesota is the state's leading LGBT advocacy organization. While OutFront is probably best known for its work in the political realm, and while my work is specifically related to the campaign to defeat the proposed anti-marriage constitutional amendment, OutFront's work is much broader. Our Anti-Violence Program provides services for LGBT people experiencing intimate partner violence or anti-LGBT bias crimes. Our Legal Program assists attorneys on LGBT-related cases, works with public agencies to develop LGBT-sensitive policies, and helps strengthen state and local human rights laws. Our Public Policy Program is working to defeat the proposed constitutional amendment and to pass comprehensive state-wide safe schools policies that will protect our state's students from bullying and harrassment.

What I love most about OutFront Minnesota is its commitment to the long-term health of the LGBT community and our movement to achieve full equality. In the words of its mission statement, OutFront is dedicated to making our state a place where LGBT Minnesotans have the freedom, power, and confidence to make the best choices for their own lives.
