Matching grant

Create new signage on our interpretive hiking trail to improve our visitors experience and educate them about the local natural resources.

In 1996, as a part of his Eagle Scout project, Chris Kleist of Ely, MN, developed an interpretive hiking trail on the property of the Dorothy Molter Museum. Currently the interpretive signs are in a state of deterioration and uneffective as a learning tool. These monies will be used to increase the number of stations, update and expand the content, and have them built proffessionally for weather resistance and durability.

With tourism being the engine that drives the Ely economy, what better way to enhance the recreational pursuits of the thousands of visitors that vacation here each summer season than with a visit to Dorothy’s wonderful museum? With the addition of new and improved signage for the interpretive trail, and more information about the local natural resources, visits will be longer and tourist satisfaction will increase. What better way to preserve and interpret the pristine Boundary Water’s heritage and history for our local resident’s enjoyment, as well. Thank you for sharing memories of Dorothy and for preserving this most unique legacy of the history of the Boundary Waters.
