In Haiti, a chlorinator with chlorine tablets can provide clean water in the poorest communities for less than 25 cents per person per year.
It is a tragedy that even one person should die of a disease that can be prevented by something as simple as clean water. Yet, this all too common, especially amongst the most vulnerable - children. In Haiti, most people don’t have access to clean water, furthermore, the average person has to spend two hours a day carrying heavy buckets of water home in order to have drinking water that could potentially be full of harmful bacteria.
International Action is a non-profit organization with one goal: to help create a healthy population in Haiti by improving access to safe drinking water. Our mission is to improve the health of Haitians through the elimination of widespread and devastating transmissions of water-borne illnesses, such as cholera, typhoid, hepatitis, and chronic diarrhea. We accomplish this by installing chlorine water treatment systems in community water tanks, schools, orphanages, and health clinics throughout Haiti. Our organization does more than provide clean water. We focus on health and empowerment through community based, sustainable and affordable solutions.
Since our founding in 2005, we have protected almost a million Haitians with our life-saving clean water systems. Now, we are trying to take our mission one step further, the only way to ensure this truly is a lasting solution is to ensure it lasts. This is why we are working to set up the Chemical Distribution System, which would enable the communities we serve to control their supply of chlorine and ultimately their access to safe water. Your support can help us make sure clean water gets to those who need it most.
