Erica Mauter fundraising for Can Do Canines
Can Do Canines is an outstanding non-profit that trains rescued & donated dogs for service at no cost to the client.
Missy says:
Can Do Canines is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities by creating mutually beneficial partnerships with specially trained dogs. That is their mission statement. I have seen it in action. The founder and executive director, Alan Peters, has worked tirelessly to make this organization a success. I had the privilege of touring the facility and seeing the dogs in action with the people they serve. Amazing. The bond between the people and the dogs was incredible.
The partnership is mutually beneficial to the dogs and the clients. The dogs are rescue animals or have been donated. These are puppies that may otherwise end up in medical research labs, stray on the streets, in a shelter, or euthanized. The dogs are trained at no cost to the clients. However, the client assumes the financial responsibility of caring for the dogs once they are put in to service. The clients benefit by being involved in the training and gaining a special friend.
There are tons of volunteers involved in Can Do Canines from puppy foster families to kennel cleaners to people who pick up the dogs and take them to the vet. The people who help out are dedicated and caring. Can Do Canines couldn't get along without them.
I have participated in their annual fundraising walk several times and I truly believe this is an exceptional organization doing important work in our community. They change lives by giving more freedom, independence, and peace of mind to people living with conditions such as MS, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, hearing loss, and diabetes.
