Hi everyone...my name is Annie Achtien and I am a second grade teacher in Orangeburg, South Carolina. I am also a member of Teach for America, a national teaching organization that places educators in low-performing, high-poverty schools.

Though my 2 year commitment to TFA will be over in June, I and fellow teachers hope to make a lasting community impact in the places we teach and to have a broader impact on education. I believe that our humanitarian trip will create sustainable change not only in Malawi, but also in Orangeburg! Community members and students will accompany us on this trip, and will join in the experience of advocating for educational equality.

For the students that we teach in South Carolina, and the students we will soon meet in Malawi, thank you for your generosity and interest...we could not complete this project without you!
